Georgia

£2,900 pp - Fully inclusive | Single supplement £500
Georgia is a country where hospitality is a duty and wine has been made for eight thousand years. This journey takes you from the streets of Tbilisi to the vineyards of Kakheti, then across the country to Adjara — subtropical, mountainous, and home to some of the warmest village hospitality in the Caucasus.
We travel by road, rail and cable car, we cook with our hosts, and we stay where families have always lived. As with every MAVKA journey, the group is small, the pace is unhurried, and Nataliya travels with you throughout.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrival in Tbilisi. Time to settle in, then a welcome dinner in the old town to meet the group.
Day 2
East into Kakheti, Georgia’s great wine region. We visit family cellars where wine is still made in qvevri — clay vessels buried in the earth, a method recognised by UNESCO — and share a long supra lunch with our hosts.
Day 3
The night train west to Batumi, on the Black Sea coast — one of the great rail journeys of the Caucasus.
Day 4
Into the mountains of Adjara. We settle into our village guesthouse and spend the afternoon cooking with our hosts — including green lobiani, the herb-and-bean bread of the region.
Day 5
By cable car to the hillside village of Tago, with its wooden houses and mountain views, and time with the families who live there.
Day 6
A mountain walk through summer pastures, and an afternoon learning to make suluguni — Georgia's beloved brined cheese — the traditional way.
Day 7
The medieval Queen Tamara bridge, a citrus farm on the valley slopes, and a farewell evening with our Adjaran hosts.
Day 8
Batumi's central market in the morning, a walk through the Botanical Gardens above the sea, and departures.
